Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Chronic wounds, especially in people with diabetes, require careful management to promote healing and prevent complications like infections.

  1. First, maintaining a clean wound environment is essential. Begin by gently cleaning the wound with saline solution or a mild, non-alcoholic antiseptic solution. Avoid using hydrogen peroxide or iodine, as these can damage tissue and delay healing. After cleaning, pat the wound dry with a sterile gauze or soft cloth, taking care not to rub it. Once dry, apply a sterile dressing to protect it from dirt and bacteria. Be sure to change the dressing daily or if it becomes damp or soiled.
  2. Blood sugar control is a major factor in wound healing for diabetics. Elevated blood sugar levels can impair immune function and slow the body's ability to repair tissues.
  3. Adhering to your diabetes medication regimen and monitoring your blood glucose regularly will help keep it within your target range.
  4. A low-carb, balanced diet and regular exercise can further support blood sugar control, which is beneficial for wound healing.
  5. Reducing pressure on the affected foot is also vital.
  6. Try to minimize walking or standing for long periods, as excessive pressure can worsen the wound and delay healing.
  7. If possible, use cushioned or therapeutic footwear to protect your foot.
  8. Consulting with a podiatrist may also help. They can recommend orthotic shoes or padding to reduce friction and pressure on the wound. Consider discussing advanced wound care options with your healthcare provider, such as antimicrobial dressings, topical antibiotics, or debridement (removal of dead tissue) to accelerate healing.
  9. In some cases, your doctor may suggest specialized treatments like hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which can enhance wound repair by increasing the oxygen supply to the affected tissues.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
