Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I went to the dentist three days ago with an abscess in my mouth, and I was given antibiotics. Since then, I have become very unwell. I am unable to get out of bed, feel sick, and have horrible headaches, and stomach pain. I even had a seizure last night. I feel so weak that I can hardly stand up for a long time without it hurting me. What do I do? I think the infection has spread. I am awaiting a tooth extraction from the hospital. I took Amoxicillin. Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and I can understand your concern.
I would like to know if have you had a previous history of seizures (a temporary disruption in the brain's normal electrical activity that can cause changes in movement, behavior, or consciousness). Did your dentist drain the abscess?
For a gum abscess, the first line of treatment is drainage of the same. Also, the focus box infection is to be removed if possible. Usually, carious teeth or deep calculus in the gums are the causes. Carious teeth need to be treated in the next appointment, but calculus can be removed in the first appointment itself.
Teeth infection can lead to fever and headaches. Sometimes, Amoxicillin is not effective in severe infection. In such cases, Amoxiclav (a combination of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) is given. You should revisit the dentist and ask for the same.
Hope it helps.
Thank you.
