What could be done to manage and prevent tooth decay?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 36-year-old female seeking your expert advice and guidance on tooth decay. I have been experiencing dental concerns and am eager to address them effectively. Your expertise can provide valuable insights on prevention and management. Could you explain tooth decay, including its causes, stages, and factors that contribute to its development?

What are the most effective strategies for preventing tooth decay? Are there dietary choices, oral hygiene practices, or lifestyle changes that can help protect my teeth from decay? Could you recommend a comprehensive oral hygiene routine that includes brushing, flossing, and other essential practices to maintain optimal dental health?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

Dental caries, or tooth decay, is primarily caused by two things: plaque buildup, which leads to an increase in microbiological growth (mostly Streptococci mutans), and a decrease in the fluoride content of teeth.

Rinsing your teeth after every meal and eating a fiber diet are the best ways to care for them. There should be avoidance of sticky and refined food along with twice brushing with a modified bass technique. Floss should only be used in class one case without the wax. Lastly, have good supplements and vitamins, including vegetables, for good teeth and immunity.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
