Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my first lower molar removed eight years ago. Now I do not have enough space for a dental implant. I am afraid that my jaw structure will be changed. Is there any solution to maintaining jaw shape and having an implant?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

After twenty years, there is no chance of further jaw growth. After eight years, there will be no change in your facial profile if you do not have any. You may need an FPD (fixed partial denture) or bridge if you do not want to go for an implant. This will create some space as well. If you have any TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder or other facial asymmetries, you must go for FPD. Otherwise, you do not need one.

Hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
