Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 24-year-old male, and my blood sugar levels have been fluctuating wildly despite following my insulin regimen. I have been experiencing frequent urination, excessive thirst, and unexplained weight loss. I am concerned my type 1 diabetes may be worsening. Could my insulin pump be malfunctioning? I have also noticed some numbness in my toes. Should I be worried about diabetic neuropathy? Please advise on any lifestyle changes or adjustments to my treatment plan that might help stabilize my condition.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Frequent urination, excessive thirst, and weight loss are signs of high blood sugar, which may indicate your insulin regimen is not working as effectively as it should. Your insulin pump may be malfunctioning or not delivering insulin properly. Check the pump settings and troubleshoot for blockages or issues with the infusion set. If problems persist, consult your diabetes care team for adjustments.
Numbness in your toes could signal B12 deficiency or early diabetic neuropathy, a complication of uncontrolled diabetes affecting nerves. Check your serum B12 levels and consult your doctor. Regularly monitor blood sugar, adjust your diet with a dietitian, stay active, reduce stress, eat fiber-rich meals, avoid processed food, and ensure proper sleep.
I hope that you got your answer.
Please let me know if you need any help.
Take care.
