Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had diarrhea since this afternoon. I do not have any pain or fever. I would like to know if it can be linked to having eaten sushi yesterday, in a safe place that I know, or taking Magnesium 500 mg at once today. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your first query consult is on us!

Yes, eating sushi can cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, GIT (gastrointestinal tract) upset, etc., if it is not well digested by your body. Again, taking Magnesium also causes diarrhea because it has an osmotic laxative effect and relaxes intestinal muscles that may fasten the exit process.

I hope this information will help you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the response. So it does not seem like an infection?

Thank you.

Hi,

Glad to have you back!

I am here to help you get the best medical advice.

Sushi is a possible source of infections like Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes that can harm the digestive system and may cause diarrhea. Again, undigested sushi can cause diarrhea, as I have already mentioned. Similarly, magnesium-induced diarrhea is another possible cause. Without diarrhea, other signs of abdominal infection, like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, a rise in temperature or fever, chills, swollen belly, etc., are absent now. So, still, it is not a GIT (gastrointestinal tract) infection. If other signs of infections appear as time passes, then it will require attention.

I hope this information will help you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
