Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have a disc bulge at L4, L5, and S1. As a result, I have back pain. Physical therapy or painkillers do not work. I read that there are some types of injections that help with the pain. Some of these injections give permanent relief, and some give temporary relief.
Kindly suggest.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
There are no permanent injections available. However, some injections are temporary and last for a few months to a year. These are a mix of steroid and anesthesia drugs like Depo-Medrol (Methylprednisolone acetate) and spinal Lignocaine.
However, their efficacy can be increased by giving them under an X-ray vision in the minor operation theater or a procedure room. The X-ray helps to locate and administer the injection at the exact site of pathology. So, epidural injection is one technique, and the other is transforaminal injections; these techniques will be based on your MRI findings. These are pretty recent techniques and are very helpful.
Hope it helps you.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Regards.
