Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My father is 71 years old and suffering from dizziness. He performed a blood test. Everything was normal except for calprotectin, which was positive. Could this be the cause of dizziness? He had already checked with neurologists & ear doctors, but everything was normal.
If calprotectin is the cause, what are the possible treatments and medications? The other symptom is trapped gas. He takes medication for high blood pressure.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Elevated fecal means that there is ongoing inflammation of the colon, but it could be due to any infection of the colon or inflammatory bowel disease. Another factor that can cause raised fecal levels is chronic constipation. His laboratory workup is normal. Dizziness does not cause increased fecal.
If they are normal and weight is static, I would advise taking fluids and fiber, and if he is having loose stools, then a short course of antibiotics for five days (Rifaxamin 550 mg twice a day).
If his fecal are not improving, then he should have a colonoscopy.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
