Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I started taking the tablet Doxycycline, and I am aware of its effects on exposure to sunlight. Today I have been in the sun for a long time, so I opted to be treated at home rather than in the morning. I would like to know if I will have any serious skin conditions if I start taking the tablet Doxycycline before going out in the sun.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Exceeding the recommended dosage may result in an increased incidence of side effects. Photosensitivity or sensitivity to light exposure, manifested by an exaggerated sunburn reaction, has been observed in some individuals who have taken the tablet Doxycycline. If you are likely to be exposed to direct sunlight or ultraviolet light, photosensitivity can occur. So, Doxycycline should be discontinued at the first evidence of skin red rashes or erythema. Besides this, photoonycholysis has also been reported in patients receiving Doxycycline. Besides photosensitivity, this medicine could cause multiple adverse effects on other organ systems.
