Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I accidentally took 50 mg of Hydrocodone and 3125 mg of Acetaminophen. I do not use this medication often. It was prescribed for gallstones time being. I feel nauseated, have diarrhea, and lose my appetite. When I called poison control, I was advised not to worry. But what do I do to get back to normal? I am a 27-year-old woman, weighing around 137 lbs.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your first query consult is on us!

Although 3000 mg of Acetaminophen is not toxic to the liver, it is definitely beyond the safe dose limit. This higher dose causes inflammation in the stomach and proximal part of the intestine called the duodenum due to irritation from the drug. This inflammation is the reason for nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Persistent vomiting and diarrhea is the main reason for hospitalization to get IV (intravenous) therapy. I recommend you consult the ER (emergency room) if you are still experiencing the symptoms.

The probable cause is drug-induced gastroenteritis. I suggest you get an IV treatment, and a follow up with a medical gastroenterologist.

I hope your query is answered. Please feel free to revert if you have any more queries.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
