What is the cause of dull pain after fingering?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my menses this month (a day later than usual). The flow lasted for four days. I was with my partner, and he fingered me slightly. I felt a dull pain. Later in the evening, I discovered blood (some cloth) in my private part. What could be the cause?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

The light bleeding and clot you noticed after your period could be due to several reasons:

  1. Leftover menstrual blood: Sometimes, menstrual blood is not fully expelled and may come out later, especially after physical activity like intercourse or fingering.

  2. Minor vaginal irritation: Fingering, even gently, can cause slight irritation or small tears in the vaginal walls, leading to spotting or light bleeding.

  3. Hormonal fluctuations: Since your period has just ended, your hormones might still be adjusting, which can sometimes trigger light spotting.

  4. Cervical sensitivity: If you were close to ovulation or had some cervical inflammation, stimulation could have caused light bleeding.

If the bleeding stops quickly and is not accompanied by severe pain, it is likely nothing serious. However, if you experience persistent pain, heavy bleeding, or unusual discharge, it is best to consult a doctor.

I hope this has helped you.

Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.

Thank you.
