How to manage my facial pigmentation and dullness?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have issues with skin pigmentation and dullness, with my facial skin appearing dull and a different colour compared to the rest of my body, and I am seeking a brightening effect and an overall glow-up.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com
Thank you so much for sharing your concern with me. I completely understand how pigmentation and skin dullness can affect your confidence.
Do not stress yourself out; with the right management techniques and some changes to your habits, this situation can easily be dealt with. I will take you through an easy process to help you get that healthy-looking skin back.
For your daily skincare routine, begin by using a cleansing facial wash that helps to cleanse your skin while keeping it hydrated. Do not use scrubs or any other exfoliating agent on your face, as these products tend to irritate the skin.
In the morning, apply sunscreen with SPF (sun protection factor) 30 or higher using the two-finger rule for the face and neck. Sunscreen is extremely important because sun exposure makes pigmentation and dark spots more prominent and slows down the skin’s healing process. If you are outdoors for prolonged periods, make sure to reapply sunscreen.
At night, you may start using a depigmenting cream containing kojic acid dipalmitate, arbutin, glycolic acid, and vitamin E, applied only to the pigmented dark areas and not on active pimples. Use a very small amount once daily at bedtime, preferably under a light, non-comedogenic moisturiser.
Follow this process for four to six weeks to observe improvement in skin brightness and gradual lightening of dark spots. Along with the procedure, basic skin care techniques play an important part in improving pigmentation and the glow of the skin.
Do not touch, rub, or pick your skin, as this will worsen pigmentation and slow the healing process. Do not use abrasive scrubbing agents, bleaching cream, or home remedies like lemon and baking soda on the skin, as this will irritate the skin further.
Keep your skin well hydrated by drinking adequate water and using a light, non-comedogenic moisturiser regularly, even if your skin feels oily. Try to limit direct sun exposure by using physical protection such as caps, scarves, or umbrellas when outdoors, in addition to sunscreen.
Getting enough sleep and dealing with stress is important, since lack of sleep and hormones affect the condition of your skin. Have a balanced diet consisting of fruits and vegetables, and avoid eating too many sugary or overly processed products.
Patience and persistence are important in your skincare process, as it will take some time for pigmentation problems to improve. Your results will gradually come, so be consistent and persistent in your efforts.
I hope this helps address your concern.
Thank you so much.
