Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I want to ask questions regarding my menstrual cycle. I am 32 years old and trying to have a baby. I started to have bleeding on the 20th day of the cycle. My bleeding was lighter than usual. It lasted for three days. What is the possible cause? Usually, I have a regular 28 days cycle.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. You are 32 years old. If you are having unprotected sex after your last period or unprotected sex around 10 to 12 days back, then you can have implantation bleeding. It occurs when the egg gets fertilized or when you become pregnant. You can check your hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) levels in blood and urinary flow gets increased when you are pregnant. Most likely, you will miss your periods. You can do a urine pregnancy test after 3 to 4 days of your next period date so that HCG levels come to an appropriate level for detection. Do it with the first urine of the day. Do not drink much liquid. Follow the guidelines mentioned in the packaging kit. Try to reduce your weight. Keep your thyroid and sugar level under control. Start taking Folic acid and multivitamins. Please mention whether you became pregnant earlier. Please mention whether you have a history of any other major illness.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Do I need to add further details?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. You are expecting your periods today. If you miss it, you do a pregnancy test after two to three days. Do it with the first urine of the day. Do not drink too much fluid before doing the test. Adhere to the guidelines given on the kit.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I am planning to do the test after two to three days. Can implantation bleed mimic periods? Can it be heavy than spotting? It lasted for three days.

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There are differences present between implantation bleeding and periods. Your bleeding lasted for three days. Usually, periods last for 4 days. Your bleeding was light. But you have bleeding in periods that seem to be heavy. Before your anticipated time, you started to have some bleeding after ovulation. Please mention whether your bleeding was with blood alone or with clots. I suggest you take folic acid and multivitamins. Do not lift weight. Do not over-exert. Take plenty of fluids. Take rest. Do pregnancy tests as suggested. Try to wait for some time. Try to figure out whether you have nausea, vomiting, and breast tenderness.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I did the test in the morning and it was negative. I did it as instructed and I have a negative result.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Wait for two to three days. Some patients can have normal periods in the first trimester and they can become pregnant and deliver healthy babies.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I will wait for two to three days.
