Can my 7-year-old son’s eczema cause fever and infection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 7-year-old son initially exhibited symptoms resembling measles, but later developed symptoms similar to chickenpox. I sought medical attention from a dermatologist who diagnosed him with eczema that progressed into a viral infection.

He is currently experiencing a fever ranging from 36.9 to 38.7 degrees Celsius, along with discomfort in his face, nose, and throat.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

Based on the symptoms described, the individual may be experiencing infected eczema. I recommend applying T Bact cream (which contains Mupirocin) for the infection and using emollient creams such as Aquasoft (glycerol) moisturizer cream. To address the fever, it is important to monitor the child's temperature with a thermometer.

If the temperature reaches 100°F or higher, you can administer Syp. Crocin DS 240 mg/ml (Paracetamol) as per the child's weight, as needed every four to six hours.

For a temperature of 102°F or higher, you can administer Syp. Ibugesic plus (Ibuprofen) as per the child's weight, as needed every six to eight hours. Consult your doctor and give the medicines accordingly.

If the fever persists for more than three days or exceeds 103°F, it is advisable to seek a physical evaluation from a pediatrician, who may recommend further blood investigations based on the examination.

I hope I have addressed your concerns.

Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.

Thank you.
