Can emergency contraceptive pill disturb the period cycle and is it effective to prevent pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had unprotected sex after which I took Unwanted-72. But now, my period is delayed. I even tested for pregnancy. What should I do now?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

I suggest you wait for your period. Also, if the period is delayed, I suggest you do the pregnancy test with the morning urine sample. Also, if you had taken Unwanted-72 (Levonorgestrel) within 72 hours of having unprotected sex, you are on the safer side.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
