Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I ejaculated on my partner’s stomach two days ago without using a condom. Before the incident, we did not have penetrative sex, and I had never had penetrative sex with this partner. Some of the semen dripped down onto her labia. We immediately wiped it off using a paper towel, and she used tablet Plan B within four to five hours of the incident. She also went to pee and showered immediately after that. She is not on any birth control, and we are not sure where she is in her cycle. What are the chances that some sperm could have made it into her vagina and possibly fertilized an egg? I am worried that the tablet Plan B might not have been effective since we do not know where she was in her cycle, and I am not sure if she should go and get a paragard IUD fitted as emergency contraception? Neither of us is in a position to raise a child at the moment. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated. Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
The chances are very low. Considering that there was no penetrative intercourse, tablet Plan B at any time in the menstrual cycle would be protective against pregnancy. You need not worry. If she has not had vaginal intercourse before, paragard would not be a good option for her. If she has, you can proceed with paragard if you feel that it would be safer. As per my suggestion, tablet Plan B should be sufficient.
