Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My partner took Unwanted 72 within 90 minutes of unprotected sex. I had ejaculated inside her vagina, and she was on the fourth day of her period. She did lose some blood after we had sex. What are the chances of her getting pregnant? Does she need to take another Unwanted 72? How often can Unwanted 72 be taken? She has difficulty with my use of condoms. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and I can understand your concern.

If you had sex on the fourth day of menstruation, then there is no chance of pregnancy as her ovulation period is far away. If she had taken Unwanted 72 (Levonorgestrel), then the chances of pregnancy are still low. Unwanted 72 is a hormonal tablet it can disturb the menstrual cycle. It is an emergency contraceptive and cannot be taken as and when required. If she or you have difficulty with condoms, use another contraceptive method. Contraceptive pills or copper T can be alternative methods. Unwanted 72 is only 70 % effective, and there is a 30 % chance of failure, so do not rely on that. There is no study done on whether taking more than one tablet in a single cycle is effective.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
