Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have just brushed my teeth with lemon juice and bicarbonate soda as I read it can whiten teeth. I just now came to know that it can damage my enamel. I have done it only once. Are my teeth going to be normal?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As per reading, the history lemon juice and bicarbonates from baking soda can cause serious harm to your teeth. I would strongly recommend do not follow any home remedy procedure of tooth whitening as they are not only ineffective but can seriously damage the enamel layer and the changes would be permanent. Since it is your first time, I guess it has not imparted severe demineralization or decay. Simply brush your teeth to increase the pH from acidic medium and just clean if any remnants left. Your teeth are going to be normal for now. But please do not repeat.

You can even upload an image of your teeth if you need any confirmation. I will let you know further once I see the image of your teeth.

You can try Colgate visible white toothpaste. And get scaling done. It will help a lot.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
