Can more saliva secretion be harmful?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have more secretion of saliva in my mouth. My age is 40, and I am a female of 5 feet height and weight 132 lbs. Please do consult and tell me whether it may bring any harm.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Any healthy individual will spontaneously swallow the secreted saliva. If there is more secretion in the mouth, either the gland secretes more or the normally secreted saliva is not swallowed. I need a few details from you:

1. Is there any difficulty in swallowing, like pain, etc.?

2. Is there any swelling in the jaws?

3. How about the food habits?

With these details, a complete reply can be given.

Thanks.
