Can OCT detect the cause of my eye socket pain?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have pain in the back of my eyes. I went to take an eye test, and they made an OCT test for me. They said everything was fine, but I needed a specialist's opinion. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your query and concern.

The OCT (optical coherence tomography) is fine (attachments are hidden to protect the patient's identity). I would like to know your intra-ocular pressure. Is the pain in one eye or both eyes? Is there any associated vomiting? Is there any glass prescription you have? What is your screen time?

Revert with answers.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

When I went for the eye test, they said the pressure was fine. The pain is in the head behind the eyes, and it is for both eyes, but more often with the right eye. No, there is no vomiting. But I do feel some pain in my right ear associated with the eye pain. Yes, I wear glasses. Screen time is eight hours or more each day.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your query.

If all is fine, then it is just asthenopia that is due to excessive straining of the eyes. Your reports are absolutely fine. So, nothing to worry about there. I suggest you the following:

1. Start eye drops of Sodium hyaluronate 0.18 % four times a day for three months.

2. Follow the 20-20-20 rule. That is, see something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes.

3. Reduce your screen time if possible.

Hope this helps address your concern.

Thanks and regards.
