Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 15-year-old son has recently developed swelling under his eyes. There is no itching, pain, or redness in his eyes. He wears glasses and is otherwise very active and healthy, with no known medical conditions.
Please guide.
Thank you very much for your guidance.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
At this age, swelling under the eyes without pain or discharge is most usually caused by allergies. The first step is to determine whether the trigger is seasonal, caused by dust, exposure to pets, or occurs at a specific time of day.
Treatment and care guidelines:
Identifying and avoiding the allergen is the most critical step.
Apply cold compresses (ice cubes or an ice pack) two to three times per day until swelling has subsided.
Medically, lubricant and anti-allergic eye solutions can be used to provide relief.
Topical steroids may be used in uncommon or severe instances.
Systemic problems may need to be ruled out on occasion, but this is unusual at this age.
Once the swelling has subsided, you should check your son's glasses prescription.
Medications you can start right now:
Lubrex eye drops, four times a day for one month.
Olopat eye drops - twice daily for a month.
Cold compresses: 2-3 times each day for a month.
If there has been no improvement in two weeks, please follow up so that we can discuss topical steroids.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any more inquiries.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the excellent and detailed response.
He has been diagnosed with urticaria, although I am not familiar with what this condition involves.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Thank you for your detailed feedback.
Urticaria is a form of allergic skin reaction that usually causes itching and swelling. It can be caused by diet, drugs, diseases, climate changes (hot or cold), or stress.
Urticaria is typically not hazardous and responds well to anti-allergic medicines.
If possible, please send us a snapshot of the affected area so we can make a more exact assessment.
I hope this clarifies your concern.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
Have a great day ahead.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have attached my reports. Please check.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
The CBC values appear to be within normal limits.
IgE levels are mildly elevated, a finding commonly seen in allergic conditions. Since the elevation is not significant, there is generally no cause for concern at this stage.
Could you please share what treatment is currently being followed, and whether the consulting physician has advised any additional management?
Kindly share those details as well.
Thank you.
