How to manage fainting episodes?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Earlier this morning, my boyfriend had a fainting episode. He was in the bathroom, and when he stood up, he could not breathe. His eyes became blurred, and he fell backward. He woke up on the floor. He was also sick last night. He mentioned that over the past few days, his body has felt weak, and he has been eating much smaller portions than usual. Keep in mind that he normally eats a lot.

He said that although he still sees large portions of food, he feels full after just a few bites. He also mentioned that whenever he stands up, even slowly, his heart races, and his chest tightens. Right now, this evening, he looks pale and has dry lips. He is scared.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

The symptoms you described, including fainting, blurred vision, weakness, rapid heart rate, chest tightness, poor appetite, and paleness, could indicate several possible medical conditions, some of which may require urgent attention. These symptoms are also seen in patients with severe dehydration, infections, anemia, hypotension, cardiac issues, and orthostasis. Many of these conditions require hospitalization, observation, and proper medical attention.

I suggest you take him to the hospital for a physical evaluation, laboratory investigations if needed, and proper medical management.

I hope this information helps you.

Please let us know if you have any further queries. We would be happy to answer.

Thank you.
