Does fever, sore throat, and cough in my 5-year-old daughter mean that she has a streptococcal infection?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My daughter is five years old. She is not well for the last four days, and her temperature is most of the time 38.4 degrees Celsius. She also has less appetite, sore throat, bad cough, and lethargy.

I would like to know if it sounds like a streptoccoal throat infection. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Based on all the information you have given me, you are right, and this does sound like a streptococcal throat infection.

I suggest you continue feeding the child with fluids like veggie soups, porridge, and lots of warm water and milk, and avoid any solid food for the next two days.

Secondly, you can encourage the child to inhale steam, which will help greatly relieve the symptoms.

Do gargles with Povidone-iodine three times a day, and warm water 200 ml with a teaspoon of salt can be used to gargle three times a day.

I hope this information will help you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Are you able to provide prescriptions here in the United Kingdom?

Answered by Dr. Jeffrey Aaron

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Yes, I can provide you with a generic prescription of the drugs you could use with the appropriate dosages.

You can try getting the medications as per the chart there.

Could you please provide me with the weight of the child?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Her weight is 21.9 kg.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Is the child allergic to any penicillin forms?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

No allergies are associated.

Answered by Dr. Jeffrey Aaron

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I suggest you take the following prescription which is as follows:

1) Syrup Paracetamol 6.5 ml for fever whenever the temperature is more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit to be given every four hours if needed.

2) Syrup Amoxicillin (400mg/5ml) and Potassium clavulanate combination of 5 ml twice daily for five days after food.

3) Syrup Chlorpheniramine (2mg/5ml) 5ml to be given three times a day after food.

However, please consult a physician, discuss with them and start taking the medications. I hope this information will help you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks.

Can I send this like a form via email, or do I show this to the pharmacy?

Answered by Dr. Jeffrey Aaron

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You can show this to the pharmacy and tell them it is from the online telemedicine consultation, as we are registered, pediatricians.

If that does not work, please get back to me, and I will find out what else can be done.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am sure the United Kingdom needs a paper prescription to dispense medicine.

Answered by Dr. Jeffrey Aaron

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

This is a chat service you have opted for, so I cannot send a prescription format here.

You could talk to support of this online telemedicine and opt for a consultation or a query service there. I can write up the same prescription for you.

If there is anything I can do to help, I will do the needful.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

It gives option for a video consultation. But I have already paid.

Answered by Dr. Jeffrey Aaron

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

That is sad.

The prescription I have given you is for the streptococcal throat infection, and if you know anyone nearby who can write this up for you on paper, you could use these medications, and the kid will get fine in no time.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you so much.

Hi,

You are welcome.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
