What is the correct dosage of Meftal P for my daughter suffering from fever?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My daughter is suffering from a fever. Her weight is 63 pounds, and her temperature is 102 degrees Fahrenheit. What would be the dose of Meftal P needed for her? At what intervals does she have to take the medication?

Please advise.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I would not recommend using Meftal (Mefenamic acid) unless required for a child. Therefore, if necessary, 7.5 ml once daily would be safe. It can be given twice daily, but I recommend it only once.

Continue tepid sponging and check for any rash or back pain. Even if there is a headache or joint pain, take her to the hospital. Also, keep her well-hydrated.

Do not give her any other painkillers like Aspirin or NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Consult your specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.

Thank you.
