How much Meftal-P can I give to my 3.11-year-old daughter?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My daughter (3 years 11 months old) has a fever for the last five days. My doctor prescribed Calpol syrup for normal fever. If the fever is more, then he told to give Meftal-P for my daughter. When can I give this Meftal-P? Before food or after food? How much mL I have to give and let me know that how many times we have to give?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advise. If fever crosses above 101 degree Fahrenheit or 102 degree Fahrenheit, then use Meftal P. In syrup 100 mg is present per dose. So 5 ml can be given at one time. It can be given two to three times a day. If the fever does not resolve, then further work-up is needed in the form of CBC (complete blood count). I hope this helps. Thank you and take care. Regards.
