Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had bumps on my lips at first. They were white and went away, but now the bumps are back, but they are little on my lips in multiple places grouped up and not white.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As per the history provided, the bumps may be Fordyce spots. Fordyce spots are basically skin-colored or white tiny bumps seen on lips, genitals, and other mucosal areas, which are harmless and require no treatment. On the lips, they appear commonly due to the excess sebum secretions and may be on and off where they may appear and disappear with time, only to appear again. They do not cause any symptoms, and they are entirely harmless. As of now, no treatment is required. Most people often have a concern for cosmetic reasons due to the visibility of the spots, which others may notice due to the size of the lesions and areas of presentation. But, if you have cosmetic concerns due to its presence, there are laser techniques available to reduce its appearance, for which in-person consultation with a Dermatologist is advised. If it is not of significant concern cosmetically, you need not undergo any treatment. Proper hydration at home with at least 2.5 liters of daily consumption of water, timely cleaning, and drying of lips, scrubbing of lips with any lip scrubs available on the market every two weeks, which is to be used gently to scrub any dead cells and excess sebum may be done. Application of a regular lip balm (Neutrogena lip balm with SPF 15) is advised. These are some steps I have mentioned for lip routine and maintenance. Apart from the same, no medication or treatment is needed for Fordyce spots per se.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
