How to manage itching and scaly rashes caused by a fungal infection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been suffering from a fungal infection on my thighs for the past two years. I used a lot of creams, but they have not been helpful. There is itching and a lot of scaly rashes. I am taking a Safecet tablet and Sapat lotion now. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

I welcome you to icliniq.com with a loving heart and with confidence that I will be able to help you with your medical issues better.

Fungal infection, indeed, is very problematic if it becomes recurrent. Keep these precautions in mind the following:

1. Do not keep the area wet at all. Use powder frequently to keep it dry.

2. Avoid itching and scratching the area.

3. Change the undergarments regularly.

4. Do not apply any steroid cream like Betnovate.

5. Do not stop the medicine once you get cured. Continue medicine for a longer time to completely kill the fungi.

6. Avoid excessive sweating or wet clothes.

7. I suggest checking your diabetes and thyroid if the infection recurs even after proper treatment.

Now for the treatment, I suggest:

1. Ketoconazole cream (anti-fungal cream).

2. Tablet Terbinafine (anti-fungal) 250 mg for two months.

2. Terbinafine cream (Fluconazole)150 mg twice a week for two months.

3. Tablet Itraconazole (anti-fungal) 200 mg once a day for one month. Consult your doctor and take the medications accordingly.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you have further queries.

Thank you.
