Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had gastric sleeve surgery ten days ago. I took all of my medicines (gastric vitamin, Omeprazole, iron chewable, Lexapro, and Lisinopril) all at once, which I have never done before. I immediately began feeling nausea and vomited. The vomit tasted like blood, and there were tiny streaks of what looked like blood. I now have a feeling of aching to reflux in my stomach and am constantly belching. My doctor's office does not open for 10 hours. Should I be concerned?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern. What is the time now at your place? Were you fine all these days? Is this the first time you vomited after the surgery? Did you have a gulp of water after taking the tablets? After the sleeve surgery, you are recommended to take water as sips frequently. If the vomiting after a gulp, and if you are fine now without any other symptoms like abdominal pain, sweating, and thumpering in the chest, you need not worry. The blood in the vomit is a bit of concern. You can see your doctor in the very first hour of next morning if you are feeling fine now.

I hope this helps. Thank you and take care.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

It is currently 11:15 PM locally for me. I have been fine since the surgery, no complications whatsoever. However, this was the first time I had thrown up since the surgery. I took a few sips of water to help the medicine go down, but my stomach was empty when I took the pills. I am feeling fine now, except for my belching. Would you recommend avoiding the emergency room tonight if I have no other incidents of vomiting or blood?
