Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I believe I have an infection in my reproductive tract. I have seen multiple urologists, and all of them have told me nothing is wrong. I refuse to believe that because of the pain in my testicles. I wish to speak with someone who has experience in microbiology because I have even cultured my own urine samples with positive results. I need help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your query.

You can opt for other investigations like ultrasound scrotum and semen culture.

Investigations to be done

Ultrasound scrotum, semen culture and sensitivity.

Treatment plan

After investigations.

Regarding follow up

Follow-up with investigation results.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had a couple of ultrasounds and an MRI performed previously, but my doctors have told me there has been nothing coming up in imaging, and I do not have access to the images. As far as the semen sample, I plan on asking for one, but my urologist appointment will not be there for at least more than three months. I am currently trying to contact a microbiologist because I just do not believe the labs have performed my urine cultures properly anyway. I have an MS in molecular biology, so I am hoping to gain access to a facility where I can attempt my own sample cultures.

Thank you for the follow-up.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

When it comes to urine culture, it cannot pick up all the organisms in the culture, causing infection. There are some organisms called non-culturable bacteria like mycoplasma, ureaplasma, viable but non-culturable uropathogens. My advice for you in this situation will be drinking 2 to 3 liters of water per day, drinking cranberry juice often, taking an empiric antimicrobial (Tablet Azithromycin 500 mg - one tablet daily for five days - morning or night).

The Probable causes

Infection involving genitourinary tract.

Investigations to be done

Nil.

Differential diagnosis

Genito urinary tract infection.

Treatment plan

Plenty of water, Cranberry juice, Emperic antimicrobial - tablet Azithromycin.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
