Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am worried about my brother, 37, who has had gynecomastia since his teenage. Lately, he has noticed some lumps and discharge from one side. We have a strong family history of breast cancer (mom and aunt).
He is embarrassed to discuss this with anyone and keeps delaying the check-up. The discharge has a weird color sometimes. He exercises a lot, but his chest area still looks swollen.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
Gynecomastia: Having gynecomastia since teenage years is not uncommon, but new symptoms like lumps and discharge warrant medical attention. Given your strong family history of breast cancer, your brother needs to get checked.
Recommended actions:
Schedule a doctor's appointment. Encourage your brother to schedule an appointment with his primary care physician or a breast specialist.
Mammogram or ultrasound. His doctor may recommend a mammogram or ultrasound to evaluate the lumps and discharge.
Physical examination. A thorough physical examination will help identify any abnormalities.
I suggest the following preventive measures:
Regular health check-ups can help detect any potential issues early.
Encourage your brother to perform regular breast self-examination to become familiar with his breast tissue.
Maintaining a healthy weight, exercising regularly, and eating a balanced diet can help reduce the risk of breast cancer.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
