This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been suffering from severe hair loss for nearly two years. Hair loss is severe when accompanied by itching. Itching at times is terrible.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I need an image of your scalp to assess your hair loss and help accordingly.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have attached the photos for your reference.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I reviewed the image you attached (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity).

As observed, there are white flakes present, which indicate seborrheic dermatitis. This condition can cause itching and hair loss. I am prescribing the following treatments, which should help:

  1. Keraglo AD shampoo (Ketoconazole): Apply to the scalp three times a week, leave on for 10 minutes, and then wash off.
  2. A hair serum: Apply once a day to the scalp.
  3. Multivitamins: Take one tablet daily.

In addition, please get the following tests done to help assess if there are other factors contributing to the hair loss:

  1. Hemoglobin (Hb) and serum ferritin.
  2. Vitamin D levels.
  3. Serum TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone).

Kindly share the results with me once the tests are completed.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I just reviewed the image you sent. The white spots you see are not flakes of dandruff; they appear to be a result of the camera flash. I have been experiencing some itchiness, red bumps on my scalp, and hair loss. The red bumps went away after using an Ayurvedic oil, but the itchiness and hair loss are still persistent. When I scratch my scalp, I notice hair falling out as well.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Please begin the prescribed medications, as they should help. Additionally, kindly get the tests done and share the results with me. Scalp oiling is not recommended at this stage.

Kind regards.
