Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been suffering from bad breath since last year and my mouth gets dry and I feel a different taste in my mouth. I underwent a tooth cleaning two years back. How to permanently cure this?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Bad breath also known as halitosis can occur due to a number of causes like poor oral hygiene, oral and dental infections, post nasal drip, sinusitis, acid reflux, respiratory infections, etc. You should consult an otolaryngologist and get evaluated. Thorough clinical evaluation and investigations depending upon suspected causes can help in diagnosis. Treatment of the underlying cause will relieve the symptoms. I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below.

  1. Start gargling with flavored mouthwash twice a day.
  2. Chew-flavored sugar-free chewing gum.
  3. Do warm saline gargles twice a day.
  4. Limit the intake of high-aroma foods like onion and garlic.
  5. Drink plenty of water and maintain good oral hygiene.
  6. Chewing cardamom will also help in refreshing your breath especially when around people to mask bad breath.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
