Can a foot and mouth disease spread to me from my kid?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Does foot and mouth disease spread? My 1.5-year-old daughter had blisters, and I was taking care of her. After five days, I have blisters on my hand. What should I do now?.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is highly contagious and spreads from person to person. It is likely that you have been affected. The virus causes hand, foot, and mouth disease spread by direct contact with secretions from the nose, mouth, or stool. This disease appears suddenly and will go away by itself without any treatment (self-limited), usually lasting for 7 to 10 days. Keep up the hydration, and take medicine for fever. I suggest a tablet of Acetaminophen 500 mg if needed. Visit the hospital in case your symptoms increase.
