Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 75-year-old grandmother has had hearing loss for the last 10 to 15 years. She wears a hearing aid. But at times she is careless about it and drops it somewhere or forgets to wear it. Often she falls while moving in such instances. Do you think they are related? How do I motivate her to wear it consistently?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern. Actually, in old age, Parkinson's disease is very common and this disease can lead to brain atrophy. It means that old age people start forgetting things easily due to brain atrophy. so it is very common for them to forget things we cannot do anything to motivate but we can just remind them, again and again. This disease is not treatable so we just need to give extra care to patients and that is how we can support it so yes, you need to remind her and make sure that she uses it regularly.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
Regards.
