How to effectively manage heat stroke?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My friend has been suffering from heat stroke for three weeks, with severe sweating that makes her weak. Heat stroke occurs when the body temperature rises above 104 degrees Fahrenheit. What is the best cure for this condition?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As your body temperature is very high due to heat stroke, I suggest you follow these steps:

  1. Do cold sponging with normal tap water to help lower your temperature.
  2. Take Paracetamol (650 milligrams) three times a day to manage the fever.
  3. Start an antibiotic course: Tablet Augmentin 625 milligrams (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid), twice a day for five days. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent.

If the fever does not subside after taking the above medications, it is better to rush to the nearest hospital. While I can offer advice online, I cannot provide a definitive diagnosis. We need to determine the cause of the high fever.

Please answer the following questions so I can guide you more effectively:

  1. Is the fever associated with chills?
  2. Are you experiencing any abdominal pain?
  3. How long have you been having a fever?
  4. Do you have any burning sensation while urinating?
  5. Are you noticing any swelling anywhere in your body?

Please note that I am unable to provide a full diagnosis online, but the suggestions above might help you feel better.

Take care, and I hope for your speedy recovery.

Thank you.
