What causes foot heel pain and back foot discomfort?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 35 years of age. For the last six months or so, I have been facing pain in my foot heels and the portion just above the heels on the back side of the foot. It is affecting my ability to walk and particularly when I use stairs. The pain worsens with running. Checked for my uric acid, and it was 6.5 mg/dl.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

This pain and swelling behind the knee can be due to high uric acid, improper footwear, or injury. You have high uric acid and will require medicines for it. Also, you need to do an X-ray as described below.

Medicines

  1. Tablet Piroxicam 20 milligrams once for 10 days after food.
  2. Tablet Rabeprazole 20 milligrams once for 10 days before food,
  3. Tablet Shelcal CT (vitamin D) once for 30 days before food.
  4. Tablet Febuxostat 40 milligrams twice for 1 month.
  5. Apply Dolonex ointment after getting up in the morning.

Take these tablets only if you are not allergic to them.

Also, do not take these tablets if you are a known case of bronchial asthma.

You need to do the following exercise,

  1. Calf Stretching Exercises - twice daily for 15 minutes each.
  2. Wear shoes that have soft soles, and open from behind.
  3. Doing all these things will help reduce this pain.
  4. Apply ice twice daily.

Thank you.

Investigations to be done

X-ray of the affected ankle joint lateral view.

Probable diagnosis

Haglund's.

Regarding follow up

With X-ray.
