Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My wife who is 42 years old has low hemoglobin content in her blood and it is 10.5 g/dl. The report is enclosed. What should she do to increase the hemoglobin content? What tablets to take and what are the dietary supplements?

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity). She has low hemoglobin and a deranged lipid profile. The lipid profile is mildly deranged and she should have a healthy lifestyle like avoiding fatty, oily and high calorie diet. Regular exercises like brisk walking, and jogging according to her capacity atleast 30 minutes a day and five days a week. Get her BP checked once if not checked. She should repeat the lipid profile after eight weeks of healthy lifestyle.

For her hemoglobin, which is likely due to iron deficiency only, we should get iron profile test done. I suggest she start iron supplements like tablet Fericip XT twice a day after meals. There should be a gap of atleast two hours between iron and calcium tablets. Repeat her hemoglobin after four to six weeks to see for an increase. The medicines should be continued at least six months after hemoglobin is corrected in once-daily dosing to replenish stores.

Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.
