What are the risks associated with unprotected sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had unprotected sex with someone who has herpes (dormant, unnoticeable). Since the next morning and until now, I have been experiencing fatigue and a tingling sensation in my hands, legs, and below the belly in the genital area above the organ. I tested negative for HIV and herpes; the results say I had mono before. Could I be having something that has not been detected yet? This fatigue is unusual to me, as well as the tingling. What should I do to alleviate the symptoms? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

There is no treatment for the EBV or Epstein-Barr virus (common and highly contagious infection), but it clears on its own.

It may be symptomatic and can occur when the immune system falls. The condition is seen as associated with infectious mononucleosis. Here are some of the ways to overcome it:

  1. Stay hydrated.

  2. Avoid overexertion.

  3. Avoid stress.

  4. Take tablet Antoxid HC (Antioxidants) once daily after dinner for 30 days.

  5. Drink plenty of water.

  6. Practice safe sex.

  7. Use protective barriers.

Also, let me know if you are experiencing any symptoms, like a rash. Have you ever had itchy skin or a skin lesion?

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take medications with their consent.

I hope this information will help you.

Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have a rash beneath the belly and above the organ. Why are you only discussing EBV? Perhaps because I just attached a single file. Are there any issues concerning STIs? If it has not yet been found, is there a way to begin treatment to prevent it from developing into a virus?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I went through the file(attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). The rash could be due to a possible infection or contact with an irritant. I suggest the following.

  1. Apply Dermocalm (Calamine lotion) lotion twice daily for 10 days.

  2. TabletTeczine-M (Cetirizine) once at night after food for seven days.

  3. Use Cetrimide (antibacterial) soap for bathing for two months.

  4. Do not scratch or rub the lesions.

  5. Maintain proper hygiene.

RPR (rapid plasma reagin) and HSV-2 (Herpes simplex virus) IgG (immunoglobulin G) are negative in the attached reports(attachments removed to protect the patient's identity).

If you have a history of high-risk exposure, I suggest getting a urine culture and microscopy done to rule out gonorrhea or chlamydia infection.

Also, answer the following.

  1. Is the HIV 4th generation test done?

  2. Any history of lymphadenopathy?

I request you kindly attach a clinical picture of the rash for better understanding.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.

Regards.
