Can HIV symptoms appear years after multiple protected sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had four protected sexual exposures ten years ago. Tested myself then with five different manufacturers’ HIV rapid kits with more than 60 kits at home with finger-pricked blood, and the result came negative. I also tested in the laboratory (HIV antibody test), and the result came back negative. So, is it reliable? I have been having symptoms like a burning sensation in my body, which has shifted from one place to another, for the last eight months under the treatment of a psychiatrist. He prescribed me tablets like Risperidone 0.5 mg, Amitriptyline 75 mg, Amoxicillin 50 mg, but there were no improvements in symptoms. The psychiatrist told me that these are somatic depressive symptoms and not neuropathy. So, do I need to change because there is no improvement in my symptoms? Do I prefer a neuropsychiatrist for these symptoms? I am tired of these symptoms and want to get better as soon as possible.

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Actually, if you have no HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) related symptoms and you have checked your HIV more than three times, all of them are negative. Then, we can definitely consider it negative only. If there were a chance, then it would have shown at least one test as positive, but in your case, all the tests are negative. The current symptoms can be associated with severe deficiencies. So, I would suggest you do a few blood tests and send me reports. I will check and prescribe you medicine accordingly. Do not worry about HIV; you do not have it. Do CBC (complete blood count), vitamin B12, and vitamin D3 tests.

  1. Did you lose some weight?

  2. Do you have severe weakness or limb numbness?

I hope this helps you.

Revert with answers to the queries above.

Regards.
