How to manage HIV in a 32-year-old woman?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor, I got an HIV-positive result when I tested last week. I am very anxious about it and I have a few symptoms like fever, headache, and night sweats. I am a 32-year-old woman. I am also facing issues with my periods. Please give me some ways to cope with this condition. How will I prevent myself from spreading this disease? Are there any support groups? How can I talk to my partner about HIV? Please guide me. Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
If you are positive, first confirm it by doing a Western blot test, which is 100 % accurate. There is a way to know. You can just start taking ART (antiretroviral therapy) as soon as possible. Before getting medicines, we need to do some tests for liver, kidney, GIT (gastrointestinal tract), cholesterol, followed by blood tests for CD4 (T-cell count) and viral load, which will decide which category of medicine you might need to take. Till then, you can start taking Bactrim DS (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) two times a day after food for ten to fifteen days. After having a doctor’s consultation, you can do all these tests and take medicines. Till that time, you can take tablets Zerodol SP (Aceclofenac, Paracetamol and Serratiopeptidase) three times a day after food for three to five days and Taxim-O 200 (Cefixime and Clavulanic Acid) two times a day after food for three to five days.
I hope this helps.
