Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 25-year-old male with a height of five feet. While traveling, I used to experience persistent vomiting that would not stop. A doctor recommended taking Ipecacuanha, explaining that there is a lot of toxicity or disturbance in my mind, and that vomiting induced by Ipecacuanha would help release it. I have been taking Ipecacuanha for the past three days, but each time I take it, I experience a burning sensation in my stomach, irritation in my abdomen, a severe headache, and frequent vomiting. I am currently taking Tegral 200 mg, one dose in the morning and one at night, for anxiety. My headaches are usually triggered by stress. In the past, I have taken several psychiatric medications, including Ozip, Lithium, Stemetil, and Epival. At present, Tegral is my only medication.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Thank you for providing such a detailed background. Based on everything you have shared, here is a careful breakdown and my advice for your situation about Ipecacuanha 30CH(Hahnemann's Centesimal [dilution].
Ipecacuanha is a homeopathic remedy traditionally used for persistent nausea and vomiting, dry cough or bronchitis with lots of mucus, and headache with stomach upset. However, homeopathy works differently from conventional medicine. If not suited to your body’s condition or taken in excess, it may aggravate symptoms, which might be what is happening in your case.
Your current symptoms:
You mentioned vomiting continuously, burning in the stomach, irritation in the tummy, and a severe headache. You have been taking Ipecacuanha for three days. These signs show that Ipecacuanha might be aggravating your system rather than helping, especially with your sensitive gut and anxiety. Even though it is homeopathic, it can still affect the nervous system, especially in sensitive individuals like you.
Important concerns:
Tegretol (Carbamazepine) is a strong psychiatric medication, and mixing it with any other remedy (even homeopathic) should be done cautiously. Your vomiting and burning may not be “resha coming out” but rather a bad reaction to the remedy. Given your psychiatric history, your body may already be more reactive or sensitive.
What you should do now:
1. Immediately stop Ipecacuanha. It is not suited to your system.
2. Treat the current symptoms:
Vomiting and stomach burning: Take an antacid like Omeprazole or Pantoprazole (consult a doctor first).
Hydration: Sip on ORS (oral rehydration solution), coconut water, or plain water frequently to avoid dehydration.
Headache: Try Paracetamol if you are not allergic to it, and avoid any further stress.
3. See a physician in person or contact your psychiatrist. You may need a short-term antiemetic (like Ondansetron) to stop the vomiting and something to soothe the GI (gastrointestinal tract) system.
A review of whether any of your psychiatric medications could be interacting.
Gentle note:
Homeopathy can help in certain conditions, but with your history of anxiety, stress sensitivity, and current use of Tegretol, it is best to avoid self-medicating even with homeopathic remedies.
I hope this has answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
