Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My father aged 54 years is suffering from HD (Huntington's) chorea. The symptoms were visible eight years back itself, but we felt it is quite common and the days passed on, and the symptoms became more prominent. My father's elder sister also had huntington's disease (HD) chorea, and she passed away due to depression. We started consulting doctor seven years back. From Ayurvedic to scientific, we have tried in all ways, but the doctors say that there is no proper treatment for this disorder. He is continuously on medication, but it is of no use. He is becoming weak day by day though we are giving him health supplements like Herbal Life to make him strong and strengthen his body. Please help me to recover him. Currently, he is on Petril, Amentral, Evion, Parkin, and blood pressure tablets. The laboratory tests performed were blood test, urine test, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and computed tomography (CT).

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. I understand your concern, but unfortunatelythis is a progressive neurological disorder and there is no cure. It is genetic and it can be inherited in the patient's children. For this reason, I would recommend you and your brothers or sisters, cousins to perform the genetic analysis for this disease. The main therapy for this disorder is antipsychotics (Haloperidol, Clonazepam, etc.)which help reduce the amplitude of the movements and help the patient improve his situation. But the progression of the disease can not be stopped, and it can not be cured. If you have not tried it yet, I would suggest treatment with Tetrabenazine. Consult with your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and take medications with their consent. Psychological support is important too. I recommend consulting with a psychiatrist.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
