Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I need to know about my hymen’s type and whether it requires surgery to have sex? Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen the attachment. (attachment removed to protect patient identity).

You have an anterior lunar, the opening of the hymen is more posterior, but it does not mean you have to undergo a surgery for defloration. For further information perform an examination by a gynecologist.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Does it mean I have a combination of hymen types which are anterior lunar and posterior lunar? The thing is my hymen hurts me only when he tries to touch it with his penis. When approached gently it hurts a little, and sometimes when approached very hard and quick it hurts me a lot. Even though, it never breaks or even bleeds it looks like it is very solid and not easy to break. My understanding of the hymen is very thin and easy to break. I really got confused by my hymen type based on your previous answer. Why it does not break even when my partner tries hard to break it many times? Is it normal to feel pain even when approaches gently? And will it pain a lot during the breaking process?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

From the photo, (attachment removed to protect patient identity), I could see that the open of your hymen is more posterior that means near to the perineal surface and also the membrane covers almost all the anterior part of introitus which may be the cause of a difficulty penetration. Only the imperforate hymen which cause an obstruction of the menstrual flow needs surgery (this is a pathological condition), in which the woman cannot even menstruate. If you have normal bleeding flow during menstruation that means your hymenal membrane is normally perforated. The hymenal membrane varies from women to women some has thicker and fibrous tissues, the other thinner, more vasculated or less. Some women experience bleeding and some not, some experience pain and some not. It depends on the characteristic of your membrane that cannot be evaluated only from one photo. The gynecological examination, put the women in dorsolithotomy position and offer a doctor the possibility to examine you with detail and can visualize the opening of the hymen. You can try with a lubrification liquid to make the process softly.

I hope this helps.
