Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My four year-old daughter who is 100 cm tall and weighs 33 pounds, is experiencing ongoing cold symptoms with phlegm sputum. She is also experiencing dizziness in the early morning when going to school and vomiting after drinking milk or any other breakfast before 10 am. She has been going to school without having breakfast. Currently she is on following medications,

  1. Cetirizine 2.5 ml twice daily.
  2. Promethazine 2.5 ml twice daily.
  3. Levolin 3.5 ml twice daily.

Please advise on how to manage her symptoms and address concerns regarding her physical strength.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq family,

Based on your description, it appears that your child may be suffering from hyperreactive airway disease, which can cause cough and cold symptoms that are more pronounced at night and can be triggered by even minor changes in the weather. Initially, the cough and cold medications you are currently using can be helpful. If these do not prove effective, nebulization with Duolin and Budecort may be required two to three times per day, and inhalers may be necessary as well. To reduce the frequency and severity of these episodes, you can give your child syrup Montelukast daily at 8 pm for six months to two or three years.

It is important to note that hyperreactive airway disease typically lasts until the age of 8 to 12 years, and as your child grows older, the severity and frequency of episodes should diminish. For now, please continue with the current medications you are giving, but also administer nebulization with Duolin and Budecort three times per day for at least three days.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
