Hello doctor,

I am a 61-year-old male, nonsmoker, and vegetarian with very high blood pressure and aortic insufficiency. I have changed the medication from Atenolol 100 mg to Losartan 100 mg twice daily as prescribed. I have had blood tests for thyroid levels, and the reports were normal. I am concerned about the increased blood pressure despite proper medications and exercise. Kindly help.

Thank you.

I can understand your concern.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Increase in blood pressure can be due to many reasons and aortic insufficiency can add to them. I advise you to follow the below mentioned instructions.

  1. Medication Review: Since you have been switched from Tablet Atenolol to Tablet Losartan (Losartan potassium) without significant improvement, consider adjusting the dosage or trying different medications to control your blood pressure with the consent of a specialist.
  2. Lifestyle Changes: Continue healthy lifestyle habits, such as a vegetarian diet and daily exercise. These are excellent for overall health.
  3. Dietary Adjustments: Pay attention to your sodium intake, and consider a diet with less salt content. Incorporate potassium-rich foods like bananas, leafy greens, and sweet potatoes to help lower blood pressure.
  4. Stress Management: Practice stress reduction techniques like meditation, deep breathing, or yoga.
  5. Regular Monitoring: Keep monitoring your blood pressure regularly.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take the medications with their consent.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
