Why does my blood pressure increase significantly especially after eating or drinking water?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 21-year-old. My blood pressure increases significantly to 160/90 mmHg whenever I eat or do a little walk, especially after eating or drinking water. I am a little obese.

I did my RFT test. My creatinine levels are 0.7 mg/dL, with a GFR of 128 mL/min. My kidney ultrasound is also normal. I have strong palpitations. Is anything wrong with me?

Kindly suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

What about renal artery color Doppler? The possible causes of secondary hypertension are-

1. White coat hypertension.

2. Masked hypertension.

3. Pheochromocytoma.

4. Hyperaldosteronism.

5. Renal parenchymal or after diseases.

6. Cardiac problems like coarctation of the aorta or LVH (left ventricular hypertrophy), etc.

I suggest you do a renal Doppler study, 2d echo, 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, serum aldosterone level, urine metanephrine estimation, and serum electrolytes test. Consult your physician. He will examine and treat you accordingly.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
