Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My child was diagnosed with hypothalamic obesity after a brain surgery, and it is affecting his confidence and health. I want to know if counseling might help him cope emotionally. Also, are there any dietary adjustments or special meal plans that could help manage his weight more sustainably?
Thanks.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Counseling can be highly beneficial in supporting your child emotionally. It can help him build self-esteem, cope with body image concerns, and process feelings associated with the condition. Because the hypothalamus controls hunger and satiety, damage can disrupt these signals, leading to increased hunger and weight gain despite calorie restrictions.
A physical examination by an endocrinologist in a hospital is a must. Please feel free to follow up with any questions.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
