Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 36 years old and had surgery for a craniopharyngioma four years ago. Since then, I have experienced significant weight gain despite maintaining a healthy diet and walking daily. My endocrinologist diagnosed me with hypothalamic obesity and recommended GLP-1 agonists, but my insurance denied coverage. I also tried Metformin, but it has not been very effective. Are there any other treatment options or experimental therapies available that specifically target hypothalamic appetite dysregulation?
Please advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you for sharing your situation. Hypothalamic obesity can be particularly challenging to manage, especially following surgery for a adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma. This condition often results from damage to the hypothalamus, which plays a crucial role in regulating hunger and energy balance. Since GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor) agonists are not accessible and Metformin has not been effective, there are a few other options worth considering:
Please feel free to book a consultation with me if you would like more detailed information about any of these options or have additional questions.
Best regards.
