What is the recommended Eltroxin dosage for hypothyroidism?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Here are the thyroid profile results of my wife taken a few months ago: T3:2.02, T4:1.17, and TSH: 5.29. She is taking 100 mcg of Eltroxin. The current test report is as follows: T3:88.47, T4:16.01, and TSH: 0.88. She is diabetic and hypertensive and her age is 64. Please suggest treatment and dosage as she is also taking Jalra 50, Glynase MF, Repalol, Telsartan H 40, and Volix 0.3 mg.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Your wife's TSH levels are low, so we can reduce the dosage of thyroid medication. I suggest you stop using 100 mcg of Eltroxin (Levothyroxine) and use 88 mcg of Eltroxin in the morning before food. Also, check FBS (fasting blood sugar), PPBS (postprandial blood sugar), HBA1C, BP (blood pressure), and vitamin D levels and make sure they are under control. You can review it with reports once it is checked. She can follow the following diet chart:

Breakfast Options (Choose one):

1. Greek yogurt with sliced mixed fruits (berries, bananas, and kiwi).

2. Brown rice or idli with chutney.

3. Glass of skimmed milk with whole-grain toast.

4. Oatmeal porridge with sliced fruits.

5. Avoid packaged, processed, and ready-to-eat foods.

6. Drink adequate water.

4. Be cautious with soy products as they can interfere with thyroid function if consumed in excess.

I hope this information helps you.
