What could cause intermittent bleeding despite taking an I-pill after sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

The condom tore while we had intercourse, and he ejaculated in me, so I took the I-pill right away. I was supposed to get my period the next day, but I did not, so I performed the first test, which came up negative. I started having periods two days later, but the discharge was brown. Later, just before going to bed, I replaced the pad, and the next morning, I checked to make sure it was clean, and the region around my vagina was dry, though spotting can occasionally occur. I retook the test, and it came out negative, along with intermittent bleeding. How is it even possible?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Actually, this is spot bleeding due to I-Pill, where the period cycle becomes irregular. You will get your periods. Nothing to worry about. Your test is negative so relax.
